Challenge
Sports and exercise research has long suffered from a significant female-specific data gap. Existing studies rely on imprecise tracking methods, and individual variation across the menstrual cycle makes one-size-fits-all approaches ineffective.
Our client needed a rigorous, evidence-based view of the FemTech and biomarker landscape to identify credible opportunities for cycle-aware athletic support.

Approach
We conducted a research sprint combining technology landscaping, market sizing, academic analysis, and perceived evidence synthesis. A review of 36 FemTech solutions was complemented by a systematic audit of 66 academic studies across physiology, neuroscience, and psychology. Athlete forums and community platforms were analysed to map real-world pain points against emerging solutions.
Outcome
The project delivered a comprehensive evidence base to inform the client's strategic positioning in female performance innovation:
-
Tech landscape of 36 FemTech companies across function, data methods, and investment
-
Academic database on cycle phase impact on injury risk and performance
-
Strategic view of near-term opportunities in female biomarkers
