A FRAMEWORK FOR FUTURE OPPORTUNITY EXPLORATION

Foresight Strategy Innovation

Challenge

ZEISS Corporate Research & Technology (CRT) supports the ZEISS business units with strategic foresight to uncover new trends and innovation areas. An initial set of methods and templates existed, but no common framework.

The CRT team wanted to professionalize and extend its offering: a repeatable framework with structured approaches that address the key needs of the business units.

Approach

We started with interviews with key stakeholders and a review of the existing foresight process.

This showed where the process fell short of the organization's needs, what the business units expected from a new offering and where it could improve. Together with the CRT foresight team, we then developed a structured Foresight-Driven Innovation Framework covering both market driven and technology driven approaches, with templates ready for direct use in internal projects.

Outcome

ZEISS CRT now has a validated, repeatable foresight framework that applies across the organization and reflects the needs and expectations of its key stakeholders.

  • Full methodology framework with reusable Miro templates

  • Slide deck with process outlines, examples and outcomes

  • Pitch deck to approach the business units

"The Foresight-Driven Innovation method, co-developed jointly with Bluemorrow, enabled us to successfully strategize a new product portfolio. We will from now on use this as a standard method for building horizon-3-roadmaps."
